The right answer depends on the tooth

A filling repairs a smaller area of damaged tooth structure. A crown covers and protects more of the tooth when the remaining tooth is weakened, cracked, heavily filled, or at higher risk of breaking.

The best choice depends on how much healthy tooth remains, where the damage is, whether the tooth hurts, how your bite comes together, and whether cracks or deep decay are present.

When a filling may be enough

A filling may be appropriate when decay or damage is smaller, the tooth still has strong surrounding structure, and there are no signs that the tooth needs broader protection.

Fillings can be a conservative option, but they are not meant to hold together teeth that are structurally weak or cracked.

When a crown may be better

A crown may be recommended for larger cavities, cracked teeth, worn teeth, teeth with large older fillings, teeth after root canal treatment, or teeth that are likely to fracture under chewing pressure.

A crown does not make every tooth problem disappear, but it can protect a vulnerable tooth when a filling would leave too much risk.

How Brightly helps you choose

Brightly Dental starts with an exam and focused imaging when needed. The dentist can show you what they see, explain the risk of waiting, and compare realistic options before treatment begins.

If the tooth hurts, feels cracked, or has sharp edges, call or text Parker or Lafayette so the team can help decide whether the visit should be scheduled urgently.

How the visit works

Start with a diagnosis, not a guess.

01
The dentist examines the problem.

The visit starts with your symptoms, a clinical exam, and needed imaging.

02
You review the treatment choices.

The dentist explains what needs attention, what can wait, and the risks and benefits of appropriate options.

03
You decide what happens next.

When same-day treatment is appropriate and available, you can choose it. Otherwise, the office helps schedule the next visit.
